What is Title IX?

Title IX is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in educational programs, activities, admission and employment. Complaints of sex-based discrimination, sexual violence, domestic violence, dating violence, and sexual or gender-based harassment are governed by鈥  

Title IX States That:

No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance. 

Educational institutions that receive federal financial assistance are covered by Title IX. In compliance with Title IX, CVCC prohibits discrimination in employment as well as in all programs and activities on the basis of sex. 

Here are some things you should know about your Title IX rights at CVCC: 

  • CVCC must respond promptly and effectively to sexual violence 

  • CVCC must provide interim measures as necessary 

  • CVCC should make known where you can find confidential support services 

  • CVCC must conduct an adequate, reliable, and impartial investigation 

  • CVCC must provide remedies as necessary 

CVCC鈥檚 Title IX Sexual Harassment Policy covers a wide range of behaviors prohibited under Title IX. Sexual harassment includes sexual harassment, sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. 

 

Title IX Prevention and Education Trainings for Students and Employees

Training and Training Material for faculty and staff:
In compliance with Federal and State law related to Title IX- Section 106.45(b) of the 2020 Final Title IX Rules requires the sharing of 鈥淎ll materials used to train Title IX Coordinators, investigators, decision-makers, and any person who facilitates an informal resolution process."

These training materials must be publicly available on the Title IX webpage. Title IX Coordinator(s), Investigators, Hearing Officers, Appeal Officers, and Facilitators for the informal resolution process receive annual training, as appropriate from SUNY.

Notice of Nondiscrimination

Under certain circumstances, sexual misconduct, sexual harassment, and similar conduct constitute sexual discrimination prohibited by Title IX. Inquiries concerning the application of Title IX may be referred to the College鈥檚 Title IX Coordinator, or the Deputy Coordinator.
